Position Summary
The Fleet Manager manages front line operations conducted within their assigned fleet to ensure all Vessels are operated in line with company core values, operational excellence, environmental, and cost-effective performance. The Fleet Manager is supported in their role by Marine & Technical Services, HSE, Financial Analysts, Marine Assurance, and Marine HR teams.The Fleet Manager has full responsibility and accountability for their designated fleet of vessels including ensuring the success of the operations and the people on board. The measure of success will include achieving Fleet KPIs, meeting expectations, and ensuring that Seapeak is a leading independent LNG operator by upholding the company brand and ethos.
Major Responsibilities
- Treat health, safety and environment as top priority.
- Drive operational leadership and operational excellence.
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, problem solving and support for team members, both ashore and at sea in order to ensure a high performing team.
- Line Manager for Vessel Managers, HSE Manager, EIA Manager and Marine Assurance Manager under their remit.
- Drive efficiencies within the team.
- Drive interface between all departments within the operations team.
- Establish team and individual objectives. Lead and work with the team to help them achieve both their collective and personal goals.
- Ensure adequate and continuous coverage of vessels during drydock, vacation etc.
- Undertake annual performance review of direct reports.
- With Marine HR and Vessel Managers, always ensure a stable and successful shipboard management team that also meet officer experience matrix.
- Liaise with Marine HR and Vessel Managers for shipboard manning.
- Work with Marine HR, Vessel Managers, Marine Assurance and Commercial Operators to enhance operational excellence.
- With input from the Vessel Operations team and Marine & Technical Services team, ensure the development of the vessel operations budget is accurate.
- Provide reliable operations within the Charter Party allowances for OPEX (including dry dock accrual and CAPEX).
- Drive cost efficiencies for OPEX, CAPEX and dry dock.
- Manage monthly fleet budget meetings with Financial Analysts.
- Work with ship team to ensure control of port costs.
Operations
- With HSE and Marine Assurance, monitor and develop plans as required to meet vessel operational KPIs.
- Be the escalation point for technical issues from the vessel management team.
- Assume the role of Incident Manager during ERT when necessary.
- Drive operational performance of vessels under remit with all stake holders ensuring that assigned fleet performs at optimal performance thus minimizing claims.
- Partner with Vessel Managers, Commercial Operators, Marine assurance and EIA Manager to develop, share, and implement best practices onboard and ashore.
- Work with Contracts and Vendor Management team to ensure best use of dry dock contracts to meet customer and budget requirements.
- With Marine & Technical Services team, manage dry docks/repair lists by Vessel and Vessel Manager, and ensure appropriate decisions are made.
- Monitor dry docking and shipyard activities and work with Vessel Manager to develop remedial plans, as necessary.
- With HSE team, monitor findings of all audits (ISM, internal, customer, etc.) and ensure necessary corrective actions are taken in a timely fashion.
- With Marine Assurance, monitor navigation, cargo, and mooring issues to ensure satisfactory resolution.
- Partner with Vessel Managers to ensure all surveys and associated certification are completed in a timely manner and within survey windows.
- Monitor and drive timely and accurate completion of various administrative tasks including but not limited to:
- Budget preparation and reporting
- Planned maintenance
- Incident investigation, near misses etc.
- Port disbursements
- Expenses
- Respond to feedback from external and internal customers to ensure consistent delivery of a first-class service and proactive resolution of any issues.
- Drive customer interface ensuring the delivery of first-class service in a cost-effective manner.
- Reporting to customers as required.
- Ensure vessel operations team use all available tools to continuously improve the vetting process.
- Lead relevant sections of TMSA as required.
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

- Experience in a ship management position.
- Analytical, problem solving, time management, project management, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to respond positively to customers in an effective manner.
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to a changing environment.
- LNG experience.
